Vocabulary

Variable - a quantity (amount) that varies; often represented with a letter.

Coefficient - The number that is multiplied by the variable.

Algebraic Expression - a mathematical expression that often contains a variable.

Term - Each part of an expression that is separated by a plus or minus sign.

Substitution - To replace each variable in an expressions with a given number.

Like Terms - Terms in an algebraic expression that have the same variable, such as y and 5y.
