We will be using the program, enVision Math.  EnVision is rooted in problem-based learning, an excellent approach to developing expertise. New mathematics is introduced in the context of solving a real world problem in which ideas related to the new content are embedded. Solving a problem that involves a new concept or procedure requires students to make connections between their prior knowledge and the new learning. Research shows that this process builds conceptual understanding.

In working through the problem, your child will be learning the following practices, among others:

  1. Make sense of the problems

  2. Model the problem visually

  3. Use appropriate tools

  4. Persevere in solving problems

  5. Construct arguments, explain thinking

  6. Check whether solutions are reasonable

  7. Verify whether solutions are accurate
