Associative Property

This property states that the way addends or factors are grouped in an equation does not affect the sum or product.

Ex.   9 x ( 3 x 4 ) = ( 9  x 3 ) x 4

Commutative Property

This property states that the order of addends or factors does not affect the sum or product.

Ex.   8 x 4 = 4 x 8

Identity Property

Addition: The sum of any number and zero is that number.

Ex.   5 + 0 = 5

Multiplication: The product of any number and one is that number.

Ex.   1 x 34 = 34
